Amplifying Women’s Stories through the lens of Lauren Carson

I decided to launch this series because it made me push the boundaries I had placed on myself. I used to hate being in front of the camera and I criticized and picked apart my body in every photo I was in. However, last year I started putting myself in front of the camera for self portraits. At first it felt terrifying and weird but over time it became extremely therapeutic and an important way for me to process emotions and things going on in my life. All of a sudden I wasn’t focused on my flaws anymore and it became all about the therapeutic process.

Throughout this journey, I realized that I wanted to give other women the opportunity to be vulnerable and to feel like their most beautiful and authentic selves. I want to provide a safe space free from judgment or condescension where I can use my creativity to capture women embracing every part of who they are. This creative space provides an opportunity for me to capture the unique stories of women through photography.

Everyone’s story is going to be different and there is no right or wrong way to tell it. You are the only one who has gone through the things you have and you are the only one who knows what that experience was like. Your story could be rooted in trauma or adversity but it could also be rooted in joy or celebration. All stories are welcome.
